Soft design with a 12 mm near reference; the practitioner must match frame dimensions and fitting height to the prescription.
Application and design rationale
Shorter near corridor
A 12 mm near reference and Soft design characterise this model. A short corridor alone does not make it suitable for every small frame; fitting height and visual needs must be checked.

Design mechanism and features
Compact corridor for shallow frames
MiniMax is a Soft Basic progressive with 12 mm NRP. Its short corridor helps position the near zone in shallow frames, but frame selection must still ensure the reading zone is retained.
Design trade-offs
A shorter power-transition path requires closer management of peripheral changes. The text describes soft power distribution, not elimination of all peripheral astigmatism.
Difference from BalanceMax
MiniMax has no personalisation and a maximum addition of +3.50 D. BalanceMax is also non-personalised, with 14, 16 and 18 mm NRPs and a +4.00 D maximum addition.
Technologies in this design
- DuraBase
- Nominal-power calculations; also described as Nominal Power in the sources.
- Core Inset
- Standard automatic inset for near-zone positioning, as specified in the product table.
Measure before manufacture
Required parameters vary by design and must be recorded by a professional.
- Monocular PD
- Each eye's pupillary distance is recorded separately to align horizontal lens positioning with the visual axis.
- Fitting Height
- Fitting height is recorded on the adjusted frame in the natural position of wear; the required near zone must also fit within the frame.
- Pantoscopic Angle
- The frame's vertical tilt in the position of wear must be measured; example values are not substitutes for measurement.
- Wrap Angle
- The horizontal curvature of the frame relative to the face, describing lens positioning.
- Box A
- Horizontal width of the frame opening in the boxing system.
- Box B
- Vertical height of the frame opening in the boxing system.
- DBL
- Distance between the two lens boxes at the frame bridge.
- ED
- Effective diameter: twice the greatest distance from the boxing centre to the lens-shape edge, used for blank selection and edging calculations.
Design-specific inputs
- Core Inset (0–4 mm): standard displacement of the reading focus according to prescription power.
- Fixed 12 mm Corridor: the corridor length is fixed; unlike higher-tier lenses, NRP steps cannot be manually adjusted.

Monocular pupillary distance
For aligning the lens centre with each eye's visual axis.

Fitting height
Vertical pupil position relative to the frame in the position of wear.

Back vertex distance
One of the inputs describing the actual position of wear.
These are basic fitting parameters; additional inputs and the level of personalisation are specified for each model.
